What's Happening!

There's lots happening at Orchard -

Come join the journey

Between Sundays

It’s almost September! Where has summer gone? Life continues to move whether I want it to or not. I can hear the marching band practicing in the athletic fields behind the parsonage while Orchard families are preparing for their end of summer camp out weekend at Myer’s Lake.

September will bring a series of hellos and goodbyes to Orchard. The Staff Parish Relations Committee is pleased to welcome to our staff Jessica Stone as the new Junior High Youth Leader. Jessica is a bright vivacious young woman, who has a love for middle school youth and a growing faith. She is a graduate of Purdue University, was recently married to Andrew at Orchard, and hopes to begin graduate school in January.

The Staff Parish Relations Committee is also pleased to announce that our children’s ministry will be co-directed by Julie Wright and Mari Anne Wilks. Julie proposed the idea of a co-leadership team and we are excited to try it. Our children have been touched by Julie’s leadership and we appreciate her willingness to continue. Please welcome Mary Ann to this new responsibility. Mari Anne and Jack are part of a wonderful longtime Orchard family. She has a warm spirit and generous heart, is mom to Marisa and Haley, and teaches at North Farmington High School.

Unfortunately life is full of goodbyes as well as hellos. Paul and Isabelle Davis are moving to Connecticut to be closer to their family (especially the grandkids ). For six years Paul was our lay leader who helped us “imagine the possibilities” and turn them into a reality. Together their support and leadership have been essential to Orchard. We will say goodbye and extend God’s blessing to them on Sunday, August 29th. Please greet them between services, or share in a special coffee hour after the 10:30 service.

In mid-September we will also bid goodbye to Rev. Vivian C. and Brother Bill Bryant. They will be moving to Tennessee to be closer to their daughter, Darmetta, and her husband, Chester Drew. Rev. Vivian C’s bible class and pastoral ministry have been a gift to Orchard. We have loved their faithfulness, spirit and joy. We will say goodbye and extend God’s blessing to them on Sunday, Sept. 19th. Please greet them at a special coffee hour at 10:00 a.m. between services.

The face of our Orchard family is constantly changing, yet the heart of our shared faith in Jesus Christ remains the same. With a seed of faith and the blessing of hope, we send the Bryants and Davises forth. Yet with God’s love and commitment we shall grow together here with Jessica and Mari Anne. Wherever we are, in God we trust!

 Blessings,

Rev. Carol
