Mission & Service

At the heart of Orchard’s ministry is a desire to reach out to the community and to be a blessing in response to, and recognition of, our having been blessed. The people of Orchard recognize God's call to us to serve others and therefore we are very committed to missional ministries. We not only support them financially, but offer regular opportunities for hands-on service throughout the year for all ages in our faith family.

  • Our elementary age children collect items for the disadvantaged at Vacation Bible School each year
  • In August, our middle school students attend F.R.O.G. Week in which one of the ways they service the community is to participate in the Cass Social Services picnic
  • Our senior high youth raise funds each year to go on a weeklong mission trip out of state
  • Each spring we take leadership in the local Rebuilding Together program that works with area cities to renovate homes of those in financial need
  • Every spring, Orchard leads the community in their support of CROP Walk
  • In October, we join with other congregations and the Detroit Renaissance District in the Hands4Detroit project by collecting food items and sending individuals and small teams to do hands-on help.
  • Each fall we host homeless families from the South Oakland Shelter (SOS) for one week, providing lodging, meals, transportation and activities for all ages
  • Each December we participate in the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign
  • We provide space and participate in Red Cross Blood Drives
  • Each Sunday our loose change and Sunday School offerings go for various ministries throughout the local area and into the world
  • Year-long collection of items such as used eyeglasses, printer cartridges and labels
  • There are additional opportunities throughout the year to volunteer at Gleaners Food Bank, Baldwin Center, Scott Center, Cass Community Church, and World Medical Relief, among others.
  • At Orchard we strive to live as God challenges us to do and as Jesus taught us. Our goal is to be positive role models of Christian living to those whose lives we connect with and touch each day. For more information on how to make a connection by volunteering for these and our other ministries, please contact DyAnn, Discipleship Coordinator, by calling the church office at (248) 626-3620.
